Edit: ksc75 is a good shout for an alternative with no treble. People on this sub make 3d printed headbands for them or use an Aliexpress kit designed to mimic Grado headbands? Could work for you if like the ksc75 sound but don’t want the weird ear clip thing they’ve got going
KSC75 drivers on the porta pro headband is GOAT imo. Brings more bass to the ksc75 while keeping the neutral-bright clarity. Although I think people say that the Drop version of the KSC75 is the best because of the better pads. More of a neutral-bright signature with a touch wider Soundstage.
Both are inexpensive with the Porta Pro retailing for $49.99 USD and the PX 100-II retailing for $69.99 USD. Both are also offered in variants with an in-line mic and iDevice controls for a little extra ($79.99 for the Porta Pro KTC, $89.99 USD for the PX 100IIi). Construction The Porta Pro is mostly plastic with a sliding adjustable metal band.
The somewhat fragile headband slider mechanism and silicone comfort strap. The KPH30i are constructed entirely of plastic (with a silicone head strap) and are clipped together without a screw in sight. The benefit is light weight and comfort. The drawback is that the KPH30i are far more fragile than the Porta Pro.
So conversely, the Porta Pro probably doesn't sound as good when it comes to vocals/voices and detail. But I'd rather give up detail if I can actually enjoy the stuff I'm listening to. I know the Koss Porta Pro gets discussed a lot but if anyone out there is a fan of rock music I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these.
Porta Pros should get plenty loud on most devices---but they are 60 ohm headphones, compared to Grado SR60s at 32 ohms. That's not the only factor which affects loudness, but it could be the reason. Devices don't get as loud as they used to, either. I used Porta Pros with a cassette Walkman back in the 80s, and I could get it uncomfortably loud
As mentioned above, the Porta Pro is pretty lightweight and does feel rather flimsy, but that’s to be expected at its price point. The plastic feels rather solid for $30, and the retro design has held up for decades without a single revision. You’re also getting a limited LIFETIME warranty, which is unheard of nowadays.
Because you know you can get Bluetooth Portapros for like $70 right? $10 for KPP, $25 for BT20S,
