With that said, the DLC didn't come out until after the original game, so I'd beat the main story first and then proceed with the DLC. The main story can probably be beaten around level 14 if you know what you're doing.
Fallout 4 has three story-based DLC expansions, three workshop add-ons, and one high-res texture pack. All have pros and cons, but some fans who are mostly driven by the story and less interested
The DLCs are the best at two different versions of Fallout 4. Far Harbor is the best version of what a lot of people wanted Fallout 4 to be, with more role-playing options and a strong story accompanying the exploration and gameplay. Nuka World is the best version of the Fallout 4 that ended up getting made - little focus on a main story but

Broken Steel: Completing the first two DLC's makes this very easy. Point Lookout: after broken steel because the enemies are tough.
98% of the internet population has a signature. If you're part of the 2% that doesn't have a signature, copy and paste this into your sig. Seeing as you need the game itself to play the DLC, and even if you install the actual game itself you still need the disc in, then obviously not. If you can read this, well done.
The order they were released is canonical. Dead Money. Honest Hearts. Old World Blues. Lonesome Road. If you dont play in this order you'll kind of miss out on the story, because Dead Money hints at OWB and LR, and the other DLCs have their own references but I forget. #9.
Followers Allowed - Mothership Zeta.esp. This mod allows your followers to return with you to Zeta's bridge AFTER YOU AND YOUR NEW FRIENDS HAVE SECURED THE SHIP AND COMPLETED THE MAIN DLC QUESTLINE. Again, this was decided to better fit with the established Bethesda lore and the whole solo-alien-abduction motif.
The Pitt is considered the best piece of DLC, because of its setting; it is probably the most "Fallout" thing Bethesda has made, at least with Fo3. Very dark and depressing new area for you to explore. Point Lookout also adds a new area to explore, but its a bit bigger than the Pitt, with more open areas. Its story is decent, but not as good as
