Early Discovery 4 models had the 2.7-litre TDV6 from the Discovery 3 (petrol versions were offered in other countries, but not the UK), while this was quickly replaced by a 3.0-litre SDV6 diesel.

The TD6 is vacuum operated. I replaced a faulty map sensor, a dodgy actuator solenoid valve and a turbo pipe that had split. I found that the cable was screwed fully in to the actuator shaft. Looking at the manual it states that the cable must be screwed into the actuator shaft 5 full turns only, that was causing the jam. Decided to remove the motor/gearbox and found one of the nylon gears was stripped, luckily I had purchased a spare set.
This problem only affected early Discovery 4 TDV6 models from 2010 to 2013 in the VIN range AA510178 to DA676456, along with Range Rover Sport and the 2013 Range Rovers that used the same TDV6 engine. Two solve this there are two solutions, one is to replace the faulty part with a new item which is costly and the same problem can occur with time. The second solution is to clean the EGR valve and block the EGR pipework with some metal plates which stop the exhaust gasses from being recirculated into the inlet manifold.
